Why is my vehicle charging so slowly?

There are a few common causes of slow vehicle charging depending on the infrastructure of your charging site, how many chargers are installed on each breaker, how many chargers are actively in use, or some limitations designed within your vehicle.

Electrical Infrastructure Limitations

  • Our EV02 chargers are generally rated for charging at 48A, however, depending on the electrical infrastructure at the property, they may be installed on smaller breakers, which would result in a slower charging speed (depending on the breaker the charger is installed on).

Load Balancing Limitations

  • EverCharge's load balancing technology is designed to dynamically balance the available energy across all of the chargers currently being used. That being said, when many chargers at the property are all in use at the same time, you may notice a decrease in your charging speed as a result.

Note: Load balancing limitations can also lead to a charge not starting immediately, even though the charger is functional and your access card is authorized. If the panel is at high capacity, all active chargers must be re-balanced when adding a new charge to the load.

If it is not possible to add the charge, your car will be placed in queue for the next available charge.

Vehicle Limitations

  • It is common for charging rate to decrease as your EV's battery capacity nears full. Please be aware that charging may begin to slow as low as 60% battery on some EVs. Please read your vehicle’s owner’s manual for more information, or reach out to your vehicle’s manufacturer.
